Whether you use a YouTube pfp downloader to check a rival's icon or you are replacing your own, start with YouTube's rules. The profile picture renders at 98×98 pixels, and YouTube's tips page only asks for a square or round image. YouTube Help: channel branding
You will often see 800×800 quoted as the recommended upload size. The current Help Center pages do not state that number, so treat it as a rule of thumb rather than a requirement. What is documented is that the YouTube Data API lists channel images at 88×88, 240×240 and 800×800, which are the three sizes the downloader above returns. Because the picture is shown so small, a simple, high-contrast image that still reads at a tiny size tends to hold up better than a detailed one.
You do not need to know a channel's ID to download a YouTube pfp with this YouTube profile picture downloader. The tool resolves whatever link you have to the channel first, then asks the YouTube Data API for its profile images.
/c/ and /user/ links), or a video or Shorts link from that channel into the box at the top of this page. The same lookup works as a quick YouTube channel icon download for your own brand assets, a press kit or a collab post you have agreed on. If what you actually need is the channel's UC… identifier, the channel ID finder takes the same kinds of links. The lookup only works for public channels.
Being able to download an image does not give you the right to reuse it. On YouTube itself the answer for your own channel is no: the impersonation policy names copying another channel's profile pictures, banners or specific color schemes, along with lookalike names and labels such as Official or Real. A YouTube avatar downloader makes the file easy to get, but uploading it as your own icon puts your channel on the wrong side of that policy.
Outside your channel icon, the picture is still someone's image. YouTube's copyright pages treat images as protected works and say that giving credit does not give you the right to use content. Low-risk uses are the ones that stay private or have permission: a mood board, research notes, or a collab announcement the other creator has approved.
