Timestamp Format YouTube Accepts#

A YouTube timestamp generator should hand you lines that YouTube can read without any cleanup. How to Link to a Specific Time in a YouTube Video#

Timestamps are something you write. Chapters are something YouTube builds from what you write, but only when the list follows its rules. Every chapter starts from a timestamp; not every timestamp ends up as a chapter.

Why Your Timestamps Are Not Turning Into Chapters#

When a list stays as plain text, the cause is almost always one of the conditions in YouTube Help. Work through them in order:

1. 1Check that the first line is 00:00. A list that opens at 00:05 or with the intro missing is ignored.
2. 2Count the lines. Fewer than three timestamps will not create chapters.
3. 3Read the times from top to bottom. Each one has to be later than the one above it.
4. 4Look for short gaps. If two timestamps are less than 10 seconds apart, the list fails.
5. 5Check the channel. Chapters are unavailable while the channel has an active strike, or when the content may be inappropriate for some viewers.
