The YouTube monetization checker above reads one number live: the public subscriber count. Everything else in the YouTube Partner Program requirements lives in YouTube Studio, so it helps to know the full list. Today, ads and Premium revenue need 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 valid public watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million Shorts views in the last 90 days. Shorts views never count toward watch hours, and views on unlisted or private videos do not count either.
YPP eligibility gets stricter for new applicants on February 1, 2027, as announced in YouTube Help. Channels already in the program are not affected.
| Feature | Apply today | New applicants from Feb 1, 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Subscribers | 1,000 | 1,000 |
| Long-form path | 4,000 watch hours in 12 months | 8,000 watch hours in 365 days |
| Shorts path | 10M Shorts views in 90 days | 20M Shorts views in 90 days |
| Fan-funding tier at 500 subscribers | Yes | Same thresholds |
On top of the numbers you also need no active Community Guidelines strikes, 2-Step Verification on your Google Account, access to advanced features, one AdSense for YouTube account, and to live in a country where the program is available.
Hitting the thresholds only gets your channel in front of a reviewer. The reviewer then looks at the channel as a whole against YouTube's monetization policies, and YouTube's help pages name two policies in particular.
Reused content covers material that is not meaningfully yours: clips, compilations or other creators' videos where you add little. The test is whether you add significant original commentary, edits or value. On a reaction or review channel, your reaction has to carry the video, not the borrowed footage.
Inauthentic content is the newer name, since July 15, 2025, for what YouTube used to call repetitious content. It targets mass-produced or templated uploads: the same video with swapped text, AI-templated narration over stock clips, or slideshows with almost no story. The concern is near-identical videos produced at volume, whatever tools made them.
YouTube says a decision typically arrives in about one month, and that busy periods or system issues can stretch that. Applications are handled in the order they come in, so reapplying does not speed anything up. The Earn section in Studio is also where you answer the question "is my channel monetized", because that is where your application status is shown.
Use the wait to keep uploading. A channel that stays active gives the reviewer more recent, original work to judge.
Shorts and long-form videos both lead into the same program, but they qualify you and pay you in different ways, so a channel that mixes both should read the two columns separately. Long-form ads are shared per video. Shorts Feed ads go into a monthly Creator Pool, which first covers music licensing and is then split by each creator's share of engaged Shorts views in each country.
| Feature | Long-form | Shorts |
|---|---|---|
| Qualifies you for YPP today | 4,000 watch hours | 10M views in 90 days |
| Counts toward watch hours | Yes | No |
| Your share of ad revenue | 55% of net ad revenue | 45% of your pool allocation |
| Music tracks take a cut first | No | Yes |
YouTube has also said that from February 1, 2027, sharing in Shorts ads and subscription revenue will need 10M qualified Shorts views per 90 days. Once you are in, the YouTube money calculator gives a rough per-video range, the channel earnings estimator projects a whole channel, and the live subscriber counter lets you watch the climb to 1,000. Below 1,000 the public count is exact, so the number you see on the way to the threshold is the real one.
