Engagement rate is the share of viewers who interacted with a video. The standard YouTube formula is (likes + comments) ÷ views × 100. A higher engagement rate means a larger fraction of viewers liked or commented, which signals to YouTube that the audience is genuinely interested.

Industry rule-of-thumb benchmarks: under 1% is below average, 1–3% is typical, 3–5% is good, 5–8% is excellent, and above 8% is viral territory. Smaller channels and niche topics tend to land higher than mega channels because their viewers are more selective and invested.

Add the likes and comments on the video, divide by the view count, and multiply by 100 to get a percentage. This calculator does that automatically, by URL with live YouTube data, or with numbers you type in.
