YouTube Thumbnail Size and Safe Zones
Before you open any YouTube thumbnail maker, know what YouTube will accept. The upload rules changed: the old advice of a small 1280×720 file no longer matches the Help Center. YouTube now recommends a 16:9 image at 3840×2160 and sets the floor at 640 pixels wide. Custom thumbnails also need a verified account. YouTube Help: custom thumbnails
Our generator exports a 1920×1080 JPEG. That is true 16:9 and well above the minimum, just not the 4K the Help page recommends. The size matters in one more place: if you run YouTube's own Test & Compare and any variant is under 1280×720, every thumbnail in that test is shown at 854×480.
YouTube publishes no official safe zone for video thumbnails. In practice the length badge sits in the bottom-right corner on most feed and search layouts, so keep faces and words out of that corner.
